LGBTQ+

The UK has made great strides in recent decades, it is essential that we recognise those who identify as LGBTQ+ make vital contributions to our culture and our economy. There have also been a number of advancements in equality for those who identify as LGBTQ+. From changing the law to allow same-sex couples to marry to introducing Turing Pardons, the UK has been at the forefront of change.

However, with Stonewall reporting that more than a third of LGBT staff in Britain hide their sexuality due to fear of discrimination, it is clear that there is still a need for change.

Gender

2017 research suggests that four in ten women had experienced some form of unwanted sexual behaviour in the workplace. Around one in nine mothers (11%) reported that they were either dismissed, made compulsorily redundant (where others in their workplace were not), or treated so poorly they felt they had to leave their job.

How to Join

There are two ways you can join the LGBTQ+ & Gender committee; as a committee or network member. Committee members have a more active role, whereas network members share their passion, ideas and experiences to influence the committee.

Each network will decide how they would like to promote and drive their D&I topic throughout the year. This could be through attending events such as Pride, joining professional networks such as LGBTinFM, sharing personal stories with the business on mental health, ethnic origin or disability, or creating a reverse mentoring programme. As a committee or network member, the aims and objectives that you’d like to achieve will be set and driven by you.
