It’s Good 2 Give is an independent Scottish charity supporting children and young people with cancer in practical ways at their time of need. Their vision was to create a relaxing home to escape from the stress and challenges of the illness, built on the southern bank of Loch Venacher in the Trossachs.
The centre is known as Ripple Retreat, reflecting the architectural wave design featured by its fascia profile, which was inspired by the rippling surface of the loch. The exceptional design of Ripple Retreat was the brainchild of Tony Kettle (who also designed Scotland’s famous engineering landmark, the Falkirk Wheel) and his team at Kettle Collective.
PROJECT SCOPE
Servest Arthur McKay was thrilled to be involved with this iconic project, installing all the M&E services. It is a low carbon building, which uses an air source heat transfer system to supply heating and hot water in a sustainable manner. The team completed the mechanical, electrical and data installation to the interior of the new 260m2 building, forming accessible three-bedroom accommodation and a caretaker’s bedroom, all at ground floor level.
SUSTAINABILITY
Underfloor heating was installed, providing the primary heat source throughout public areas, bedrooms and en-suites, creating a constant and comfortable air temperature. It is supplemented by trench heating, located around the interior perimeter of the building. Both forms of heating are designed to increase energy efficiency and lower energy bills.
The team also installed small power and data outlets to suit the architectural layout, as well as all the new lighting, internally and externally; comprising mainly of energy-efficient LED luminaires and the fire & security systems. Servest Arthur McKay’s in-house project cabling team installed a new comms cabinet and structured cabling system to meet Cat 6 specifications and all necessary protocols, to deliver data, telephony and CCTV services.
“Having contractors we could rely on was extremely important to us, given our charity status and that every penny raised comes from community fundraising and we were very happy with the service we received from Servest Arthur McKay. They have gone the extra mile to help us realise our vision. Every family we have welcomed to the retreat has loved it!”
